Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)
There are times where cavities can be managed with less-invasive treatment options, such as Silver Diamine Fluoride, or SDF. SDF is a medication that is applied to the tooth much like using a paintbrush. This medication works to modify the environment that the bacteria exist in, making it more difficult for them to survive and less likely that the cavity will progress. This option has many versatile uses with less disruption for patients, making it a treatment option that can frequently work for young children or in teeth that are very near exfoliating. Feel free to discuss with one of our pediatric dentists to see if your child is a good candidate for Silver Diamine Fluoride.
